ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
What does it feel like to be another being? How does our perception change when we extend, transform, or rethink our bodies? In this workshop, we will explore textile body extensions as a playful way to engage with the experience of multi-species existence, hybrid beings, and forms of kinship.By working with textiles, we will create extensions that transform the body—new limbs, sensing surfaces, or tentacle-like structures. These experiments invite us to reconsider our movement range, boundaries, and connections to the environment. They open up a space where the human shape can transform, allowing a physical engagement with the experience of becoming-other.
At the same time, the workshop introduces basic sewing techniques and textile design. In a collaborative process, we playfully explore materials, experiment with form and movement, and develop individual or collective extensions. Sewing is not only understood as a craft but also as a connective and transformative practice—a process of linking, assembling, and shaping new relationships.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in experimental body experiences, textile work, and speculative futures—no prior experience required. The workshop will be held in German and English. We kindly ask you to register in advance via olivia.jaques@mzbaltazarslaboratory.org, as the number of participants is limited. Textile rests as well as your own sewing machine are welcome (but feel free to come with or without)!
